At the turn of the 20th century New Orleans, E.J. Bellocq, a quiet Marine photographer, secretly photographed the madams of Storyville, New Orleans’ famed red light district. Bellocq’s silver daguerreotypes captured the essence of Storyville in a way that the public had never seen before and were only discovered, secretly stored in Bellocq’s private belongings upon his death.
Inspired by the photographer’s gripping images of a pre-prohibition sexual revolution, Bellocq is a new cocktail lounge located in The Hotel Modern New Orleans. Neal Bodenheimer, Kirk Estopinal and Matthew Kohnke, owners and operators of New Orleans’ renowned Cure, have created a cocktail menu like no other for Bellocq, featuring their innovative approach to mixology which has made them an institution of New Orleans’ nightlife goers and cocktail enthusiasts worldwide. In addition, Bellocq features live performances from international artists and burlesque troupes, among other titillating acts.
Cure was recently named one of the Best Bars in America by Esquire Magazine and one of America’s Best Cocktail Bars by Travel + Leisure.
